Unlike the first reviewer I loved this one.Trace lands in one hell of a mess which includes the Countess Fallaci.
Seems someone stole a million dollars worth of jewelry from her house. Her man Jarvis also died on scene.
The theft of the jewelry doesn't interest Trace but Marks wants him to look into the death of Jarvis. He was insured by Fidelity.
So begins a really good read. This one is full of weird characters and has twists and turns all over the place.
We also get Trac's parents on site. Sarge, his Dad, wants nothing more than to help out and help out he does.
Just a super read and well worth those five stars.

The #2 in this series didn't disappoint. If you like a quirky detective and some almost believable far-fetched characters, this is your meat. Murphy has found a great platform from he he can keep writing, one after another.
Warren Murphy is my favorite author. He is entertaining as any writer out there. He takes the contemporary and makes it into a mystery that only his dysfunctional heroes can solve. From Trace to The Destroyer, his books and novella's rate number one.
I've never read a Warren Murphy book I didn't like, and this was no exception. He writes much like Richard S Prather, who wrote the Shell Scott mysteries of years ago, and I find myself laughing to myself every once in a while!.
He is a credible private eye, with a personality on which you can depend. This character has his charms, his foibles, and his self-deprecatory weaknesses that give him charm. Solid writing skills at work, reads smoothly and easily. And the mysteries he unearths are real page-turners. He remains true to his character. I wish I had an uncle like Trace!
I must say the writing by Warren Murphy is unique. I have a love/hate relationship with these Trace series, I love the characters and I want to continue reading this series, but I hate starting from the beginning. Let me be a little more clear.....the book takes a little bit to get the momentum going. With that said, I still enjoy reading this series and look forward to hearing more about Trace and Chico!!!
I love a good mystery, there is no doubt about it. But I don't want it to be so complicated it has to drag me through the sequence. This book produced the needed result, and included some unusual and funny characters. I would call this easy and fast reading material and while there may have been a few editorial misses, I was pleased with this book. It felt like the author took me by the hand and said, ok you like mysteries, try this one for something different.
Please somebody tell me why the specific number of 47 for the rope?
This guy has some sense about his drinking being counterproductive. Also his smoking. This one was really a mystery. Yes I spotted the questions the story intentionally didn't ask but finally did which led to the solution. The nonsense about naked women which offended one reader was just silly. No reason for offense. Also no reason for the nudity. Way past likelihood. He even admits the hate mother rhetoric is just that. Just so much talk. These people are much easier to like than the Digger cast.
