After finishing The Squad: Perfect Cover, I immediately purchased The Squad: Killer Spirit. This story takes place three weeks after the first book. Toby Klein is still wondering how she joined the Varsity Cheerleading Squad at Bayport High. It's been a surreal experience and now the girls have been commissioned with their next mission. They have been asked to track four suspects potentially with terrorist connections who have just arrived in Bayport. What are they doing in Bayport? And more importantly, are they connected to the evil law firm, Peyton, Kaufman and Gray?
Toby's life has been thrown upside down especially with the upcoming Homecoming nominations. She would do anything not to be crowned or to have any attention focused on her but when Jack Peyton, Bayport High's Most Eligible Bachelor, asks her to the Homecoming Dance, she's definitely stuck with a dilemma. She can't help but fall for the handsome, mysterious, senior but wonders how much he knows about the Squad and their cover. Does he know they are secret spies? Is he really using her to get to the Squad? Or does he really like her?
And worst of all, someone knows who Toby is and someone is trying to kill her ...
This second story in the Squad series is just as good as the first. I thoroughly enjoyed it due to the sarcastic humor that Jennifer Lynn Barnes gives to Toby and her dislike for cheerleaders and all things pink and glittery. This story had more action and definitely more intrigue as you wonder what will happen to Toby. There is also more character development and you follow Toby as she starts to develop bonds with her teammates.
I'm so sad that this is the last book to day for the series and there isn't any future plans to continue with this series! I absolutely loved it and I think it has such a great storyline! I really wish I can read more because I definitely want to have some of my questions answered.
My personal favorite quote in this story is "OMG with a side of WTF!". Hilarious!

Killer Spirit Jennifer Lynn Barnes 9780385734554 Books Reviews
Hilarious. I wish she would continue the series.
In this time of reading this book On this day i declare cheerleaders are kickass 😠. I thought this book was amazing and fun and a little creepy. I got chills and I loved how the squad was growing on toby. I would recommend this to all my friends. This will be one of the series I remember. Please write more.
Both book kept me reading and wanting more. I'm actually sad it's over.
I enjoy a good story. I enjoy it more if it's fun, a little crazy, and makes fun of its own coolness. All those factors factor into this book.
This was a fun series. Who would ever expect cheerleaders of being spies? It is a fun concept, and it is action packed and suspenseful while keeping light and funny at the same time. I really enjoyed this series!
Great book, fun read. Love the lead character. Her point of view is different and pure entertainment. I hope there will be more in the future.
I guess that I was expecting more of a Sherlock Holmes deduction process with a resultant 'save-the-day' by the protagonist, Toby.
As it was, everything pretty-much just happened around her and she just survived the consequences. She really didn't figure things out with the reader, but analyzed things after-the-fact. I didn't like the trap door at the end. It was just too convenient. A 'Who-done-it' or 'Who-is-doing-it" from the 'get-go' with some clues would have been preferable.
I read the first book and was quite impressed by it. I wrote a review explaining what I did and didn't like about it and, unfortunately, this one is going to get more criticism than praise.
I expressed it in the last review and I will emphasize it now. I felt that a LOT of detail (at least an amount I deem necessary for good description) was excluded. One of the things I believe to be important is having the reader feel that they are part of the story, not only by making them think they're there with the characters but also connecting with them. The writing just lacked a lot of description so the further I read, the more frustrated I got and disconnected I felt. The story was like a bath sponge- it had some substance and material but lots of holes.
Eventually I came to a conclusion one reviewer mentioned JLB' s tendency to be wordy and I agree. There was plenty that gave us insight to Toby's mind but nothing else. I found it difficult to visualize the events because I could only depend on the dialogue and what little description was given.
Plus, the ending. On my kindle, I swiped the last page and thought "That's it?" I thought there were a lot of loose ends and it could have been written so much more smoothly instead of cutting off abruptly.
I don't want to end the review on a bad note. Character development was pretty good, I really do like the main character, and I'm a sucker for spy/action stuff. I just felt that there was a lot missing and it could be better written. In all honesty, there isn't enough for me to stick around for another book if there is one. The only motivation I had to read this sequel was entertainment... and I think I've had my fill.
